Judging by your response, you've probably seen the episode known as "Rivals In Death"!
After The Epic, no other episode in the Surgical Sideshow repertoire has been performed more often.
It was the First of the Second Wave and can still be seen on the Black DVD,
which features Hannah the Human.
Four different Humans have performed this with The Surgical Sideshow but Wunjo was the first.
He also contributed the classical guitar melody you hear on the soundtrack. This episode was specially written for and performed first
at the Planet X Day of the Dead celebration, in Chippendale,
on the 2nd of November, 2007.
Irene was enticed to be the second Reckless Boy, this time, far away
on the purpose-built Surgical Sideshow Stage,
for the High and Dry Festival in St Albans
on the 30th and the 31st of December, 2007.
You would have to be a gifted individual indeed to have seen Irene's last public performance
of this episode, amidst the smoke, the disco lights and the wilderness of people at some mid-year Halloween party,
deep underground at Rogues/The Gaff in Darlinghurst
on the 19th of April, 2008. From then on, the Skellingtons always practised in Danger Room
conditions.
Only one month later, Hannah began her enduring association with the Surgical Sideshow
as the third Human to perform this very episode, at the invitation of the very wonderful
Carnival of Electric Illusions, on the stage at Club 77, Kings Cross
on the 23rd of May, 2008.
The Skellingtons rushed themselves from the dark corners of the Sandringham Hotel, where they were eagerly watching
The Surgical Sideshow Puppet Theatre,
in order to get to their own appearance
for Rock Hard Cock at the Talbot St Warehouse in St Peters
on the 27th of September, 2008.
Much later, the Good Skellington, the Bad Skellington and Hannah captured
this episode for posterity, with the aid of the mysterious Mr. K.
It would be a whole year before it was performed again. This time it was
for the Under the Blue Moon festival, strategically positioned outside the Hub Theatre in Newtown
on the 31st of October, 2009, in broad daylight!
The Peats Ridge Festival was again granted the unique benefit of its own Surgical Sideshow Stage
and two nights of performances. Bohemian Love Theatre regular, Sha was sweet enough
to temporarily join the Surgical Sideshow and lend her ongoing Humanity to this end. For two nights,
on the 29th and the 30th of December, 2009,
the Surgical Sideshow shared their inventions, amongst sets by the
very talented Lanie Lane and Dangerboy.
The last time anyone, anywhere saw a live performance of "Rivals In Death" was at the totally unexpected debut
of the PAN DIMENSIONAL HALLOWEEN SYNDICATE at Dirty Shirlows in Marrickville
on the 20th of February, 2010.
It was a Saturday, and Hannah rejoined the Good Skellington and
the Bad Skellington for the role
of the Reckless Boy. The night was very large and
culminated in a performance by Mojo Ju Ju.
If you weren't at any of these performances, you haven't seen this episode!
You must be thinking of something else!
